The front cover (Page 1) of the October/November 1938 Issue, Vol. 1, No. 8.
The Maine Electric Transiteer was released by the Portland (Maine) Division
of the Electric Railway Association. In this issue, a reproduction of this
cover photo of PRR No. 502 on gloss book paper for framing
was offered to readers for 10 cents. See page 3.
I turned it so Portland Railroad No. 502 was easier to view.
This is a photo of Portland Railroad No. 502. It is not the same photo as the one
on the cover above. In this photo, 502 is at the PRR St. John Street carhouse.
No. 502 was considered the largest and fastest car in the PRR system.

You may recall from the previous posts on other issues of the Transiteer, I first learned about the Portland (ME) Division of the ERA Maine Electric Transiteer newsletter when longtime member of the Seashore Trolley Museum, Kevin Farrell, mailed two copies to me in the summer of 2023. They were terrific! They were the second and third issues from 1938, the first year the newsletter was issued. I was able to acquire issue Number 10 soon after. I continued the lookout for additional issues and had luck locating two more Maine Electric Transiteer newsletters from the Robert Melcher Collection at the Brown Research Library at the Maine Historical Society.
Last week (March 2026), I received a new donation of Transiteer issues from Kevin Farrell. In that batch was this "new" issue that I'm posting here. Thank you, Kevin! ๐
There are now nine issues posted

Being more than a century old, the stately, "Elegant Ride," Narcissus, is a gem. This shimmering precious stone of Maine transportation history is brilliantly resplendent as it emanates so many elements of history, including time, places, people, and events, that it was coupled to, that when just a smattering of its seemingly innumerable stories are shared, the contents first captivates, fascinates, then generates interest to learn more ๐.
